Handmade Oak Tables

Handmade oak tables, crafted one at a time by Callum Nutbeam in Hampshire. Every piece is solid oak, cut from sustainably sourced hardwood, and made to order.

Whatever you’re after, from a rustic farmhouse table to something clean and contemporary, tell Callum what you’re picturing and the design takes shape from there.

Handmade from Solid Oak

A handmade oak table is built from solid oak boards rather than veneer or chipboard with an oak-effect surface. The timber runs all the way through, so the table can be sanded back and refinished years later. The joints are cut using traditional joinery rather than glued dowels or flat-pack fixings, which hold the table together over decades of use.

Each one is shaped, assembled and finished by hand, then made to order to set dimensions. Because oak grain varies from board to board, every table differs in colour, figure and pattern, even across two of the same design.

Why Choose Oak for Your Dining Table?

Oak earns its place at the dinner table. It’s one of the hardest native hardwoods, it ages well, and it works with almost any interior, which is why it’s been the default choice for English furniture for centuries.

Finish it in oil for a natural, matte feel, or lacquer for a harder, more wipeable surface, depending on how hard the table will work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What styles of handmade oak table can Callum make?

X-frame, H-frame, A-frame, J-leg, round, live edge and contemporary flat-top designs, in solid oak or oak combined with steel. Bases and proportions are built to order, so the list isn’t fixed. If you’ve seen a style elsewhere, Callum can usually work from a photo or sketch.

How is a handmade oak table different from a factory-made one?

A handmade table is solid oak throughout, not veneer over board, and uses cut joinery rather than flat-pack fixings. A factory table is built to a fixed size in volume, usually with thinner tops and machine fixings.

Can I choose the size and shape of my oak table?

Yes. Every table is made to order, so you set the length, width, top thickness and shape, whether that’s rectangular, square or round. Callum will advise on seating room per person and proportions that suit the room before you sign off on the final measurements.

What finish options are available for solid oak tables?

Two main finishes for oak: oil and lacquer. Oil gives a natural, matte surface that’s easy to patch and re-coat. Lacquer is harder and more resistant to spills and marks. Callum can make up samples of either before you decide, and care instructions come with every table.

How do I care for a handmade solid oak dining table?

Care depends on the finish. Oiled tables need a re-coat now and then and benefit from wiping spills quickly; lacquered tables just need a wipe down. Callum provides care instructions matched to your finish with every commission.

How long does it take to make a handmade oak table?

Usually 6 to 12 weeks from sign-off, depending on size, timber and how much detail is involved. A straightforward design is often faster, whilst larger or more complex pieces take longer. Callum gives you a timescale once the spec is agreed.

Do you deliver handmade oak tables across the UK?

We deliver across the UK, and you’re welcome to collect from the Hampshire workshop. A delivery charge may apply depending on how far you are. Callum will confirm the cost and timing with you once the table is finished.

How do I start my handmade oak table commission?

Get in touch by phone, email or the contact form with a rough idea of what you want, the size, and your room. Callum replies to talk through options and timber, then puts together a spec and quote. Once you’re happy and sign off, your build slot is booked.
